Kodaikanal(Tamil Nadu) - Princess of Hill Stations


Kodaikanal is a city in the hills of the taluk division of the Dindigul district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. Its name in the Tamil language means "The Gift of the Forest". Kodaikanal is referred to as the "Princess of Hill stations" and has a long history as a retreat and popular tourist destination.

Kodaikanal is neither too hot in summer nor too cold in winter.Kodai get some rain almost every month,the months January and February are on the whole generally dry.Declared season time is from the middle of April to the middle of June.Winter months January, February and March are best for health,since humidity is at its lowest and a warm morning sun.

The various places You can visit while You are in Kodaikanal are:

Coakers Walk: The paved walking course presents some spectacular valley views given its not too misty and is relatively a clear day.

Dolphin Nose: It is the most breathtaking experience for trekkers and forest lovers. The mountains view all around the point are simply splendid and is worth the pain one takes to reach the point. 

Valley View: As you trek thru the Kodaikanal Pine Forests, You come across small beautiful villages on the valley located on mountain tops and surrounded by mountains all over. The scenery is fantastic.

Pillar Rocks: Huge rocks standing tall in the forests. Good scenic place.

Echo Point: Going down further along the route to the dolphin nose, You reach the echo point. From this point, You can also see the backside view of the suicide point.

Kodaikanal Lake and surroundings: This is the most common hangout place for tourists and local people. Located in the city center, this place is very lively. You find a lot of people boating, kayaking, horse riding, cycling and hanging out in the crowdy market place in this locality. 

Byrant Park: its a small park located near the Kodaikanal Lake.


Lion's Cave: There are no lions!!! Located beside the pambar falls and near to the bear shoal falls, is a good trekking experience. There was some Tamil TV series shooting going on at this location when we visited the place.


    You can book cabs/minibus to take a tour for sight seeing. They have various tours like the Picnic Tour, City Tour, Forest Tour etc. You can take a horse ride in the pine forests.
